12 Sep Why humans expect generosity
A few months ago I published a paper jointly with Pablo Brañas-Garza and Ismael Rodríguez Lara showing experimental evidence that humans expect generosity from others (see details here). Now María Pereda joins the team to study the issue from the modeling viewpoint. In a new paper, we show that in an agent-based simulation a reinforcement learning algorithm based on agents’ aspirations reproduces nicely the experimental observation. The model makes a clear connection with the process of emergence of social norms, which thus become a likely candidate to explain why we expect generosity.
